By Rata simply means that the BAH is divided by the number of family members, and each receives a fraction based on the number of members. Covered family members are spouses and children. Former spouses do not count and even if a member pays a court-ordered maintenance pension to a former spouse, there will be no credit for this assistance to, because the assistance obligation lasts 18 months – after which the spouse must receive a request for legal support. AFI 36-2906, Personal Financial Responsibility, Point 4.1, states that “members provide financial assistance to a spouse or child or other parent for whom the member receives additional benefits.” Support is based on the “non-locality” rate BAH With Dependents. Sometimes this has been called BAQ or BAH-II and is simply a standardized base premium for building unsealed housing for the member`s service. Thus, while a member stationed in Hawaii receives a much higher BAH than a member of the same rank stationed in Wyoming, they have the same duty of assistance as their unlocated BAH rates are the same. For example, if the member has two children and a spouse, they would generally be three thoughtful family members, each entitled to 1/3 of the BAH.
